gallery on the street

one of the things i like best about portland is that what would be a typical neighborhood of limited variety elsewhere is a smorgasbord of creative energy here. forget neighborhood councils that put ridiculous regulations on what your house or yard may or may not look like. the west is full of diy energy that although is not always pretty can certainly entertain me for many strolls to come.

this is one of the better executed vehicle artworks i've spotted in my vicinity. i am led to believe it is owned by someone who works at the together gallery, a local artist collective around the corner from me.

amanda visell

just recently i stopped in a new vinyl toy shop/gallery space on alberta st., the screaming sky gallery. inside i picked up a book by the los angles illustrator amanda visell. i really enjoy her 50's story book art or at least this is how i would describe it. there is a nice contrast of geometry and texture incorporated into some fantastic themes. she even has a small line of wood toys to accompany her work.
